Thai throne could be filled in days

King Bhumibol Adulyadej died last week after a 70-year reign, plunging Thailand into intense mourning.

Sarasat is likely to face charges of insulting the monarchy.

On Sunday, a woman on Samui island was forced by police to kneel below a portrait of King Bhumibol in front of a baying mob after she allegedly posted an insulting comment about the monarchy on Facebook.

"We are going to proceed with the case as best we can", district police chief Thewes Pleumsud told the crowd.

'I understand your feelings. I am here to hopefully bring you the latest information on rookie, underrated and girl groups.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, born in 1927, came to the throne in 1950 and is the world's longest-reigning monarch at present.

Thailand's monarchy is protected by a harsh lese majeste law that outlaws criticism, with punishments of up to 15 years in jail for each insult uttered.

Dozens of sporting events, as well as concerts and other festivals, have since been cancelled with the public urged to refrain from overt celebrations during an initial 30-day mourning period.

Prayut also confirmed on Tuesday that the policies of the government aimed at restoring democratic rule, as well as general election scheduled for 2017, would not be affected by the king's death.

"Although the government has said it is not necessary for all people to wear black, the Finance Ministry is of the opinion that it would be good if the low-income people can wear black to mourn for the late king", Somchai said, according to the newspaper.

Authorities in the country of more than 67 million people are urging calm after swarms of people took to social media to criticise those who aren't wearing black and white clothing to mourn the late monarch.

Bhumibol was seen as a near-divine figure who embodied the unity and continuity of the nation.

Bhumibol's body is being kept at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, where tens of thousands of Thais have descended.

Thailand's junta leader-cum-prime minister has said that Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn could be announced as the new king in as little as 15 days.
