The "Winds of Winter" has been in the works for nearly six years, being the next installment of "A song of Ice and Fire" fans has been eagerly waiting to lay their hands on the book.
It might not be the sixth installment that we've been waiting for, but let's face it, we'll take anything we can get at this point. However, Martin has made similar statements before, and even his recent Winds of Winter tease on his blog (called NotABlog) was not particularly enlightening.
While the book's description does not reveal what the story will be about but the speculation has it that it will be an excerpt from "Fire and Blood", another book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that the author is working on.
The highly anticipated "Winds of Winter" could be released in October 2017, or at least the release date could be announced at that time.
No details have emerged as to what new "Game of Thrones" story in included in the book.
Season 7 of HBO's "Game of Thrones" will be just seven episodes long, but it looks like we'll have plenty of material to tide us over.
No solid news on the other contributors, but back in November of 2015, author Matthew Hughes (A Wizard's Henchman) shared that he was invited to contribute, and at the time listed "K.J. But hey, I thought the same thing a year ago", he said. Gardner Dozois, a long-time collaborator of "Game of Thrones" author R.R. Martin, edited the anthology. "But hey, I thought the same thing past year".
Martin has written several short stories set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, including the three Dunk and Egg novellas, and the novellas The Princess and the Queen and The Rogue Prince.
The book is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Certainly, the news about George RR Martin's new release is giving fans something to talk about on the long wait for Winds of Winter.
