At least 13 people were burnt to death and 20 injured in a fire that broke out at a cooperative society building in Madhya Pradesh's Harrai Nagar panchayat in Chhindwara district on Friday.
At least three people suffered burns and were hospitalized, the newspaper reported. Reportedly, Kerosene oil was being distributed to BPL families when the explosion took place. Rescue operations are still underway and more than 14 bodies have been recovered from the spot so far.
According to reports, the fire broke out at 6 PM, when dozens had lined up outside the ration shop to purchase the subsidised kerosene. Officials said the fire is now under control.
Chhindwara Collector J K Jain also confirmed the death of 14 people in the tragedy and said a magisterial probe has been ordered.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to kin of those killed, whereas, Rs 50,000 to those who are left critically injured.
