Celtics, Lakers, 76ers have plenty riding on the National Basketball Association lottery

Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, left, Magic Johnson, president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, center, and Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid, right, react after the learning they will get one of the first three picks as the NBA basketball draft lottery is announced, Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in NY.

The only thing that could possibly make this week better for Boston would be a Wednesday night victory over the Cavs in Game One.

"That felt pretty good", Grousbeck said after the draft lottery results were revealed.

Once the game started, there was little to get excited about for Boston. Thomas was the last overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 draft. "You think of it, if you're going to trade this pick as part of a package for an established star [who is] making max [money], you've got to send max money out the door, as well". Boston is obviously in a unique position as a team that is both already deep in the playoffs and set up to land a top tier prospect.

Earlier in the day, the first paragraph of his page included the line, "He is best known for destroying the Nets in the Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce trade".

It should come as no surprise, therefore, to find out (via Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding) that the Los Angeles Lakers' front office held him in higher regard a year ago than they now hold any of the prospects who could be available to them with their recently-secured second overall pick. They could use a big to pair with Al Horford, but not with the top pick. And having the No. 1 pick this year, and potentially the No. 1 overall pick again next year with Brooklyn's pick again, he doesn't have to take that kind of a risk. "So if you can get a really good guy with this pick, you've got him, you can build with him, you can coach him up", he said.

The draft is considered a strong one, loaded with point guards such as Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball and De'Aaron Fox. Lonzo Ball is the favorite to be drafted with the second pick, but it is anyone's guess as to what the Lakers will do with their other draft choice.

The Boston Celtics now hold the first overall selection in this year's NBA Draft - a pick they likely will not hold on to.

The Suns finished with the second-worst record in the National Basketball Association this past season.

As fate would have it, the Suns droped out of the top three as Phoenix landed the fourth pick in the NBA Draft. The New York Knicks are in the midst of a risky game with their top players, Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis but after Tuesday, that black hole got wider. I hope the reporters and all the news is in there. Who won big and who left disappointed?
