China warns India over Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Arunachal

Sonowal stated that dedication of the bridge connecting Dhola with Sadiaghat on May 26 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the nation and naming the same after Bhupen Hazarika was a moment of pride for the people of Assam. Meanwhile, a ten feet tall bronze statue of Sudhakantha was taken to Bolung village in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh near Sadiya over the bridge this afternoon.

But in 2014, Mr Modi eased rules on building roads and army facilities near the 4,056km-long border in Arunachal Pradesh, signalling a shift in India's strategic policy. The travel time between the two places will come down from the current six hours to just one hour - a total five hour reduction.

The bridge also opens new road for the high quality ginger grown by farmers of the region and will improve their economic condition. "We have this vision", Prime Minister Modi said after inaugurating the bridge named after legendary Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika. He said that good connectivity in the North-East will also link the region with the economy of South-East Asia. He said that his government has completed most of its promises and are working to make India a well "developed nation".The government under PM Modi has completed three years today. "He approved. Then soon government at the Centre changed and the work on the bridge kept on getting delayed". Earlier, the Prime Minister arrived at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Dibrugarh after inaugurating the nation's longest river bridge - the Dhola-Sadiya bridge over Lohit river and laying the foundation of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district.

The groundwork for the project begun in 2002, under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that, people of Sadiya are happy about the development and that the bridge will bring both economic ans social development to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

"We are grateful to Dr Manmohan Singh and the then surface transport minister as per the Indian culture for this great gift to Assam".

China has always been building infrastructure along the border unlike India, which, experts say, avoided building roads in the region, fearing a repeat of the 1962 war when the People's Liberation Army troops entered Assam.
