Colorado has nation's lowest unemployment rate

San Diego County's unemployment rate plunged to 3.8 percent in April, a new post-recession low, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.

EDD noted that non-farm payroll employment statewide totaled 16,681,200 in April, which actually represented a net loss of 16,300 jobs from March. We haven't seen an unemployment rate this low in almost nine years. It had the second fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in trade, transportation, and utilities (+5.4 percent) in April 2017.

The report concluded that rural areas likely always will have higher unemployment rates than urban areas, for a number of reasons: Rural areas depend on seasonal agricultural and resource industries, which tend to be seasonal. At the start of a year ago, 12-month gains were around 40,000 jobs.

Three job sectors combined for a loss of 21,800 jobs year over year, led by a decline of 11,400 jobs in manufacturing. Other sectors with gains were retail trade (+900) and information (+400). Leisure and hospitality added 1,500 jobs and professional and business services was down 1,600.

Unemployment fell to 4.4 percent, its lowest level since May 2007. Gains were spread among several industries, with eight of the 14 major industries adding close to 1,000 jobs.

"50,000 more Alabamians are working now compared to past year". Data showed that employment rose 37.4k in April, following the 60k gain in March. State and federal government employment contracted, as well. Government jobs include public education, public administration agencies and state-owned hospitals.

The establishment survey, which is conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, surveys employers to measure how many jobs are in the economy.

First, he said there will be multiple high school and college students looking for summer job opportunities, as well as college graduates who will be permanently joining the workforce. That caused the number of those unemployed in the state to decrease 7,300. Seasonal adjustments eliminate these influences and make it easier to observe statistical trends. Neither the state nor national rates are seasonally adjusted.
