Congress seeks Comey testimony as Russian Federation turmoil engulfs Trump

Patience Tested Congressional Republicans have largely backed Trump through the rocky initial months of his administration, but the events of the past week - Comey's firing, the report that Trump disclosed classified information to Russian officials, and Comey's memo - are testing the party's patience.

Former FBI Assistant Director Ron Hosko, now president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, said he thinks Trump may have underestimated Comey who, as a career FBI investigator, had been trained to make copious notes of his conversations.

Chairman Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, and Vice Chairman Mark Warner, a Democrat from Virginia, said they have asked Comey to testify before the panel in both open and closed sessions.

The reports were based on a memo Comey wrote in February after meeting with the president.

Stock markets tumbled, the dollar's value sank and anxious Republicans wondered what else could go wrong Wednesday as President Donald Trump faced congressional inquiries into allegations he tried to derail an FBI investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and disclosed classified intelligence to Russian Federation.

Adam Schiff, the highest-ranked Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said this intervention by Mr Trump, if confirmed, amounted to "interference or obstruction of the investigation". Those associates said despite Trump's tweet suggesting he had "tapes" of his conversations with Comey, the White House has produced no such evidence.

"No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly". Spicer told the gaggle that that Trump recently spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but he insisted that it was about Trump's upcoming trip overseas, and not about how Trump's leaked intelligence reportedly came from the Israelis.

As the investigation into Trump's action heats up, let's not forget the other players in this burgeoning scandal.

But Chaffetz indicated he hasn't been able to get in touch with Comey, who became such a national fixture when Trump fired that cable networks broadcast helicopter footage of his ride to the airport. Obama's security team asked for Trump's sign-off, as the plan would likely take place after Trump's inauguration. Trump himself said he had "an absolute right" as president to share "facts pertaining to terrorism" and airline safety with Russian Federation.

Trump himself hasn't directly addressed the latest allegations that he pressured Comey to drop the Flynn investigation.

Amash is the first Republican lawmaker to raise the specter of impeachment. We do know from press accounts that there was ambiguity about the conversations.

The White House says President Donald Trump will be interviewing four potential candidates to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including former Connecticut Sen.

Democrats were far less sparing in their criticism and repeated demands for a special prosecutor.
