Hopes fading as search for missing Sukhoi and two pilots continues

Guwahati: Rescue operations for Indian Air Force's Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft and its two pilots who went missing soon after take-off from Tezpur airbase in Assam were resumed on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Indian Air Force said that no breakthrough had been made in locating the aircraft and its pilots.

An IAF spokesperson said in New Delhi that a Su-30 aircraft with recce capability is also being utilized for locating the missing plane. Nine ground search parties from Army, four from IAF and two state administration teams are also working on "different axes" from the last known position of the twin-engine fighter around 60km northwest of Tezpur when radar and radio contact was lost with it.

"For the situation you mentioned, I have no relevant information to offer at the moment", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang told reporters when asked about the missing Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet and whether China would assist India in finding the plane that took off from the Tezpur base in Assam for a routine training sortie almost 24 hours ago.

This is published unedited from the ANI feed.

One of the two pilots of the Sukhoi-30 MKI fight er which went missing in Assam a couple of days back is a native of Kozhikode. "Chinese government's stance on the eastern section of China-India border has been consistent and clear. We have been following the situation in South Tibet very closely", he said, using the term China uses for Arunachal Pradesh which it has claims on.

The Su-30 jet with two pilots on board took off from the IAF Tezpur air base, located about 172 km from India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh around 9.30 a.m. on a routine training mission. While the two pilots ejected safely, some locals suffered splinter injuries in the crash.
