Iran slams U.S. for urging policy shift in second Rouhani term

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said Tehran will continue its ballistic missile program.

Asserting that unity and consensus is the solution against the terrorism, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that terrorism is now on the path to eradication, although there is a lot to be done in this respect.

"The Iranian nation has chose to be powerful".

US President Donald Trump (center-left), Saudi Arabia's King Salman (center-right), and other leaders pose for a group photo during the Arabic Islamic American Summit at the King Abdulaziz Conference Center in Riyadh on May 21, 2017. "But we hope that if Rouhani wanted to change Iran's relationship with the rest of the world those are the things that he could do", Tillerson said.

"Those who have fought terrorists are the Syrian and Iraqi people".

Qassemi's comments come after US President Donald Trump clinched a massive $110 billion military deal with Saudi Arabia over the weekend during his first foreign trip since he took office.

Saudi Arabia and Iran compete for influence across the Middle East, respectively backing rival political or armed groups in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, 68, was re-elected for a second term with 57% of the vote in presidential elections last Friday, promising better relations with the rest of the world and more jobs for Iran's youth. "We are waiting for the new government to find stability and continuity in its policies", he said.

Tillerson, when asked whether he would meet with Iran's Zarif, said he would "not shut out anyone who wants to talk" or have a productive conversation.

"Our missiles are for our defence and for peace, they are not offensive".

Rouhani, who fronted Tehran's deal with six major powers in 2015 to curb Iran's nuclear programme in return for the lifting of sanctions, said the USA administration lacked knowledge about the Middle East. He said America is prepared to stand with them but the region can not wait for American power to crush the enemy. In the bilateral sphere, South Africa and Iran share a long historical relationship, with Iran having stood with and supported the struggle for liberation in South Africa.

The reformist daily newspaper Shargh said reformists were also leading in other major Iranian cities like Isfahan, Kerman, Mashhad, Semnan, Shiraz, Tabriz and Zahedan.

"This is the most important message which the Iranian people hope the big powers will fully hear", President Rouhani said.
