ISIS Claims Responsibility for Manchester Attack

They said they believed one man carried out the attack, but authorities were trying to confirm whether he had worked alone or as part of a network. A 23-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in south Manchester in connection to the bombing, police said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The terrorist tracking group SITE first reported ISIS' statement praising the "soldier" behind the attack.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II marked a moment of silence Tuesday afternoon to honor the victims.

"Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to all of Georgina's family, friends, and all of those affected by this loss", the college said. More than 200 people were injured, though no one was killed.

Prime Minister, Theresa May, has chaired a meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee and will be travelling to Manchester.

"We struggle to comprehend the warped and twisted mind that sees a room packed with young children not as a scene to cherish but as an opportunity for carnage", May said.

Some parents say their children are still missing.

Following the attack, Grande tweeted: "Broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words". She said that, as they turned the corner, they saw a "horrific stampede of people coming down the steps and people being crushed on the floor". "We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device, which he detonated, causing this atrocity", said Chief Constable Ian Hopkins.

Sixty ambulances attended the scene and those injured are being treated at six hospitals around the city.

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham described the attack as "our darkest of nights".

Northern's performance and planning director, Rob Warnes, said: "Manchester Victoria will remain closed on Tuesday as British Transport Police and Greater Manchester Police continue their investigation".

Britain has been under a "severe" terror threat alert for three years and there has been an uptick in terror-related arrests in recent months.

Police have been warning that another attack was highly likely after a man plowed his auto into a crowd on London's Westminister Bridge in March and stabbed a policeman, in an attack that left six dead.

The explosion rocked the arena at around 10:30 p.m. (5:30 pm ET), and the sound of wailing sirens cut through the smoky aftermath of the blast soon after.

"We were stood at the top of the stairs and the glass exploded - it was near to where they were selling the merchandise", she told BBC Radio Manchester.

"We've tried everything we can".

"All of a sudden there was a huge bang and then within seconds people behind me started screaming and running, running past us", she said.

At the time of the blast Chris Parker, 33, was in the foyer area of the venue where he regularly goes to beg for money as concert crowds head home. "I wrapped her in one of the merchandise T-shirts and I said 'where is your mum and daddy?' She said 'my dad is at work, my mum is up there"'. "It's the most frightful feeling ever, to know your daughter is there and you don't know whether she's dead or alive", she said. We saw kids coming down the steps and I was able to drive to the bottom of the main steps [and] my wife jumped out of the auto to find our daughter Charlotte and her friend Gemma.

One fan at the concert with his sister described how the explosion happened as fans were leaving the arena. "How we weren't crushed to death is a miracle".

"Ariana was off the stage, she'd finished her set", he said.

The Dangerous Woman tour is the third concert tour by 23-year-old Grande and supports her album of the same name.

"I brought my baby home, which some people won't be (able to do) tonight". Taxis offered to give stranded people free rides home while some residents opened their homes to provide lodging.

US President Donald Trump slammed the attack, saying that terrorists were "losers".

A US Department of Homeland Security statement said it was "closely monitoring" the situation and added that the department has "no information to indicate a 'specific credible threat involving music venues in the United States".

"So many young handsome innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life".
