James Comey Leaks Donald Trump Dinner Details to the New York Times

The president threatened Comey on Twitter early Friday morning, saying the former Federal Bureau of Investigation head "better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

In a series of early morning tweets, Trump assailed critics and the media over their response to Comey's ouster, and threatened to cancel daily news briefings at the White House.

There have always been reports indicating that President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because the latter would not sufficiently assure the former of his loyalty.

But the suggestion that Trump might have "tapes" of his conversations with Comey - especially in light of the president's own claims that President Obama ordered Trump Tower wiretapped - touched off a firestorm of controversy. "I had it in Moscow long time ago, but other than that I have nothing to do with Russian Federation", he said, referring to the pageant.

"I am now even more skeptical of how we as a Congress will be able to conduct our independent investigation of the Trump Administration's suspected involvement with #Russia", Evans said.

Previous presidents have made a public show of staying out of legal matters, so as not to appear to be injecting politics.

Trump is considering 11 people to replace Comey, a White House official said. Comey found the allegations confounding, according to his associate, and wondered what to make of what he described as odd thoughts coming from his new boss.

As part of the Russian Federation investigation, the Justice Department last month requested formerTrump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's banking records, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. He's been deeply involved for years in FBI efforts to fight terrorism, serving in supervisory roles in Iraq and Afghanistan and later overseeing FBI global terrorism investigations as a section chief. "He said, 'You are not under investigation.'" Trump told Holt.

The White House has said Comey's firing was unrelated to the Russian Federation probe. White-collar defense attorney Alice Fisher interviewed for about 90 minutes with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy, Rod Rosenstein.

Trump told NBC's Lester Holt: "And in fact when I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said "you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won".

Rogers is the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

A Duke-educated lawyer, McCabe was named a year ago as the FBI's deputy director, the No. 2 position in the bureau, overseeing significant investigations and operations. He said there has been no interference so far.

Kelly was commissioner of the New York City Police Department for more than a decade, serving two mayors.
