NFL Makes 4 Big Rule Changes For 2017

The NFL's team owners approved a few changes for the 2017 season at the Spring League Meetings in Chicago on Tuesday. Especially since the amount of ties in the National Football League would have increased by 220 percent in the last five seasons if overtime only lasted for 10 minutes. The sudden over-emphasis on penalizing players for how they expressed their on-field joy will not continue in 2017, as numerous celebrations for touchdowns and other big plays will no longer be flagged or fined for being "excessive".

Goodell added, "The number one thing that I took away from the conversations with players is the incredible commitment they have to the game and the integrity of the game".

The league will still penalize some celebrations, including "offensive demonstrations, celebrations that are prolonged and delay the game, and those directed at an opponent". Days after the Los Angeles franchises noted their stadium opening would be delayed another year, the league moved Super Bowl LV from Los Angeles to Tampa Bay.

The decision to let players celebrate more freely is a long-awaited relief for players and fans alike.

Owners also agreed to eliminate the trimming of the roster from 90 players to 75 prior to the final preseason game.

The NFL wants to put some flair back into touchdown celebrations, allowing players to use the football as a prop, celebrate as a group and roll around on the ground again if they choose. Overtime, touchdown celebrations and the manner in which teams trim their rosters down during training camp will all be affected by the new rules.

Roger Goodell released a letter to address celebrations around the league.

"Our focus in this process is this building should host multiple Super Bowls over many generations, and we need to make sure we deliver a building that is an exceptional, Super Bowl-quality building", Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff said last week.

"I think two pumps get you a baby", Bennett in a press conference. This should help the players on the back end of the roster a lot, as they'll have an extra chance to make an impression on their coaches and earn a spot they might otherwise have missed out on. Now, there will be two such players for each team.
