Preds win from ousting Ducks to reach 1st Stanley Cup Final

General manager David Poile detailed Johansen's condition in a statement Sunday, two days after Nashville announced the top scorer's season had been ended by a thigh injury after Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

As many have already noted, the quality of hockey between the Nashville Predators and Anaheim Ducks as they exchange proverbial haymakers in their Western Conference Final has been top class.

That leaves it up to the Predators to handle business on the ice.

Nashville Predators forward Ryan Johansen is recovering from emergency surgery after he sustained a serious left thigh injury during Game 4 of the Western Conference finals against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

Aberg, who also has one career National Hockey League regular-season goal, was only in position to win it because the Predators were on a counterattack after a prolonged scramble in front of Nashville's net.

Pontus Aberg, who played only 15 games with the Predators all season, scored the victor on his first career playoff goal.

Fisher missed his first game of his scoreless postseason with an undisclosed injury after taking a hit to the head in Game 4. "It's awesome playing in front of him, and he's been unbelievable". That's how Nashville has won each time in this series for their fifth comeback victory this postseason and the 31st overall of this postseason.

Johansen has scored 101 goals and set up 187 others in 433 career games with Columbus and Nashville since being selected by the Blue Jackets with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 draft.

The Ducks are dealing with injuries as well.

The Ducks also were hurting without Rakell, a surprise omission due to a lower-body injury, and Eaves, who missed his ninth straight game. Neither traveled to Nashville.

Jonathan Bernier took over for Gibson and stopped 16 shots in his first appearance in almost two weeks for the Ducks, calling it a "weird situation". The last team to beat the Ducks in a Game 5 at Honda Center also was Nashville.

"Well, it seems that when the pressure's been applied, we've responded in the proper manner, and I would expect the same", Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said.
