Seven quizzed as counter-terror police hunt Manchester bomber's 'network'

When asked if he had been contacted by British authorities about his son, who was reportedly known to the security services before Monday's bombing of a pop concert in Manchester, northwest England, Ramadan Abedi answered 'No'.

Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins has said leaks of the probe to the U.S. media - including forensic images of the bomb site first published by The New York Times - also had been hurtful to the victims' families, Reuters reported. Their report, which proved to be correct, was published hours before United Kingdom officials announced the official death toll. She can't believe this happened.

May left for Brussels amid bitter complaints from British police and other security forces about leaks of sensitive material related to the investigation by USA officials.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will raise concerns with US President Donald Trump on Thursday about US leaks of intelligence on the suicide bombing in Manchester that police fear could hinder a hunt for a possible bomb-maker still at large.

A national counter-terrorism policing spokesperson criticized the leak of the forensic pictures, saying that it "undermines our investigations and the confidence of victims, witnesses and their families". Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said the leaks "greatly" concerned him, and added that he had raised these with the US ambassador to Britain.

Police arrested two further suspects on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of arrests to eight, including a woman and Abedi's brother.

In the Libyan capital Tripoli, Abedi's younger brother 20-year-old Hashem and their father, Ramadan, are being held by special forces linked to the country's interior ministry.

Prime Minister Theresa May announced late on Tuesday that intelligence analysts had raised the United Kingdom terrorism threat from "severe" to "critical" - the highest level - for the first time since 2007, meaning another attack may be imminent.

"One of the things that public will see potentially, depending on obviously where they live, is that through Operation Temperer this now allows the police to access support from the military".

The former official added "They just blabbermouth it and it's really, really unhelpful", calling the British "pretty disciplined" by comparison.

On the Belfast Islamic Centre Facebook page, a spokesman said they were "shocked and horrified" at the attack.

The government is "furious" over a string of leaks of details about the investigation, Sky news said.

European security officials have expressed concern about sharing intelligence with the USA after Trump discussed highly classified intelligence about ISIS with senior Russian officials visiting the White House.

USA officials later leaked that the ally in question was Israel.

The terror group has claimed responsibility, but British and US intelligence have not confirmed that.

U.S. reporters travelling with the president said Mr Trump declined to answer questions on intelligence sharing. "We did our checks".
