Trump quickly finds voice on Twitter after returning from foreign trip

The top Democrat on the House intelligence committee is urging a review of White House adviser Jared Kushner's security clearance following news reports that he sought to set up back-channel communications with Russian Federation.

The Friday news that Trump son-in-law in charge of All The Things, Jared Kushner, sought a secret line of communications with Russian officials that would bypass American intelligence services is four large Goodyears tossed onto the White House tire fire.

Now that the US President is back from his nine-day worldwide tour, he appeared to be reacting to recent reports, citing anonymous sources, that his son-in-law - Jared Kushner - is being focused upon in the ongoing investigations into Russian interference in the November election and that Trump is planning big changes within the White House staff.

"He is respected by virtually everyone and is working on programs that will save our country billions of dollars".

"In addition to that, and perhaps more important, he is a very good person", Trump added.

Kushner initially had come to the attention of FBI investigators previous year as they began scrutinizing former national security adviser Michael Flynn's connections with Russian officials, the two sources said.

Kushner made his secret communications proposal on December 1 or 2 at Trump Tower in NY, according to intercepts of Russian communications reviewed by United States officials, the Post reported late Friday. On Friday, the newspaper reported that Trump's adviser had allegedly discussed with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak the possibility of establishing a communication channel between the USA administration and the Kremlin.

The Democratic National Committee has called for Kushner's security clearance to be suspended until the federal investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election and possible ties to Trump associates is completed.

Trump aides traveling with the president in Europe have refused to address the contents of Kushner's December meeting with the Russian diplomat.

CHUCK TODD: And this is what's likely triggered the FBI's now extra attention to Jared Kushner that we've been reporting - that they believe he has more information.

Mr Kushner's lawyers said he was willing to talk with federal and congressional investigators about his foreign contacts and his work on the Trump campaign.

The latest reports in the Russian Federation matter said Kushner spoke with Russia's ambassador to the United States about setting up secret communications with Moscow during the presidential transition. National security adviser H R McMaster told reporters on Saturday that so-called back-channeling was not unusual. "#FakeNews is the enemy!".

"Mr Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings", attorney Jamie Gorelick said on Thursday.

"We re chasing our tails as a nation when it comes to the Russians", US Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN.

The relationship had already begun to suffer over Trump's firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, which Kushner pushed for, and over Kushner's desire to see White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon and press secretary Sean Spicer fired, according to the newspaper.

"We have back-channel communications with a number of countries", Gen McMaster said when asked about the case of Mr Kushner.

But, "to wait a few weeks at the request of the Secretary of State to see if he can change things in Syria seems to me to be an appropriate thing to do".
