Trump's approval rating hits new low after scandal-plagued week

"Trump's approval rating, despite remaining fairly consistent in recent polling, reached its lowest mark for any Politico/Morning Consult poll since he entered office..." But on Friday, Reuters released its own poll in partnership with Ipsos that showed the president's approval rating was actually much lower, this time at just 38%.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Friday indicates only 38 percent of usa adults now approve of the president, while 56 percent said they disapprove of his performance. Gallup's daily tracking poll, for example, set Trump's record low at 35 percent on March 28.

The week started with revelations that Mr Trump shared highly classified information with Russian diplomats in a private meeting.

Americans appear to have soured on Mr Trump after a tumultuous week in the White House during which the President fought back a steady drumbeat of critical news reports that ramped up concerns about his administration's ties to Russian Federation.

While it is the polls lowest recorded approval since Trump took office on January 20, other polls have recorded lower numbers in the past.

45 percent say they have an unfavorable opinion of House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., while 34 percent had a favorable view of him.

Among Republicans, 23 percent expressed disapproval of Mr Trump in the latest poll, up from 16 percent in the same poll last week.

The survey found that 50 percent of respondents disapproved of Trump asking Comey to drop the investigation, if the memo is proven true. A majority of voters (58 percent) called the disclosure inappropriate, including 85 percent of Democrats, 59 percent of independents and 27 percent of Republicans. Forty-nine percent of all registered voters in the poll approved of Trump at the time.

That's a drastic change from the 43.6 percent approval rating the divisive politician received in the May 1st poll.
