US Congressmen call for Donald Trump impeachment on House floor

A Democratic lawmaker has called for impeachment of US President Donald Trump for his alleged involvement in obstruction of justice, after news reports revealed that he had asked the FBI to stop investigations against former national security advisor Michael Flynn.

"The Americans implied that their Israeli colleagues should "be careful" as of January 20, Trump's inauguration date, when transferring intelligence information to the White House and to the National Security Council (NSC), which is subject to the president", Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

"If the allegations are true, yes", the Michigan Republican said when asked if the allegations are grounds for impeachment.

House Republican Justin Amash of MI says it could be grounds for impeachment if President Donald Trump urged FBI Director James Comey to end a probe of former adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey's memo - an apparent effort to create a paper trail of his contacts with the White House - would be evidence that president has tried to influence the investigation. House Speaker Paul Ryan supported the request, however neither have asked for a hearing with Mr Comey or McCabe as yet.

President Donald Trump is a new breed of commander-in-chief.

Republican Chair of the House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz said the House needs to see the memos Mr Comey wrote in order to determine if Mr Trump did in fact obstruct justice by calling for the end of the Flynn investigation. "But I think we're in impeachment territory now for the first time".

Ryan raised questions about Comey's account of that meeting. "The President must be impeached", Green said. "We need to get to the bottom of it and on the broader question people have asked about where does this all lead, I think the we ought to keep our focus on finding out the facts in the first instance and no one ought to, in my view, rush to embrace the most extraordinary remedy that involves the removal of the president from office".

Speaking at a joint news conference with the visiting Italian prime minister on Wednesday, Putin said he had "no other explanation" as to why Trump came under attack other than "political schizophrenia".
