Another step in Jets purge: WR Decker released

Another step in Jets purge: WR Decker released

That comes after the Jets tried to trade Decker but couldn't find any teams willing to take on his contract unless the Jets would pay some of his salary.

After the organization failed to negotiate a trade, the Jets released the veteran wide receiver on Monday, a day before the start of their three-day mandatory minicamp.

The fate of the Jets receiver had been up in the air since June 6 when Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan made it known that the 30-year-old wouldn't be returning to NY for the 2017 season. "While with us, he was a competitive, productive, and dependable receiver who represented the team well both on and off the field".

Decker, who thrived in Denver before inking a big-money deal with the Jets, proved that he was more than a creation of Peyton Manning.

"We think very highly of Eric. Our focus right now is seeing our young players, how they do", said Maccagnan.

With Decker gone, the Jets' top two receivers are Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson, who have a combined total of 122 career catches.

"You never know how this is going to unfold", Maccagnan said on Tuesday "Sometimes trades happen after word gets out".

When will Congress approve another round of Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC)? He was forced to miss 13 games last season due to hip and shoulder injuries, undergoing surgery to fix both issues.

Decker was limited to nine receptions for 194 yards and two TDs in three games past year because of a shoulder injury.

His recovery appeared to be going well this offseason as he participated in organized team activities the past few weeks. Decker wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. Unfortunately for him, he'll have to settle for less than $7.25 million this season.

In seven National Football League seasons he has 385 receptions for 5,253 yards and 52 touchdowns.
