Apple WWDC 2017: iOS 11's upcoming Files app spotted ahead of keynote

Right now, the App Store on iTunes features some curated collections and assorted charts and categories, but a version of the Today feature Apple's touting for iOS 11 might make it easier to discover new apps in that version of the store, too.

The keynote to flag off WWDC 2017 confirmed that iOS 11 is headed our way in fall, which is also the time the new iPhone is expected to be launched. The company also unveiled ther device features touching on virtual reality, online privacy and a form of artificial intelligence called machine learning. It does not get a massive overhaul in terms of the visual appeal or the features, but there seem to be enough changes under the hood to make a difference.

HomePod users may initially be constrained by Siri's lack of capabilities as compared to Alexa, which also boasts the ability to order millions of Amazon products as well as food from restaurants like Domino's. A computer processor will tune sound to the room and beam specific parts of music, like a singer's voice, toward the listener. Google already tries to be proactive with its Assistant on Android phones and Google Home speaker. It will also learn new words from what you've been browsing on the web, and throw them up as suggestions when you are typing. There are new watch faces.

And Apple Watch is bringing Siri front and center. The assistant will be able to translate from English to select languages at the moment.

Drivers will still be able to use Apple CarPlay, of course, in cars that are equipped with it. Apple CarPlay is a vehicle interface specifically created to allow drivers to hear and respond to text messages using voice commands and to safely use other iPhone features while driving.it's available from a number of automobile manufacturers, including General Motors (GM), Fiat Chrysler (FCAU), BMW and Honda (HMC), and works through a computer screen in the auto.

A set of iOS 11 features including enabling smartphone cameras to read QR codes are aimed at the China market, where Apple would like to bolster iPhone sales. Although the format is not exclusive to Apple, it's not yet clear how well the photos will work with non-Apple software and devices, which mostly use JPEG. Using Business Chat, your customers can get answers to questions, resolve issues and complete transactions on their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. "Requires iOS 11.0 or later". For starters, the app bar at the bottom of the screen will now have space for even more apps. These sections will also highlight in-app purchases - seemingly a bigger deal for app makers looking to promote their updates than for end users like you or me - and you'll find video highlights and tips in these sections, too.

Apple also launched a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a 12.9-inch iPad Pro feature the world's most advanced display with ProMotion technology and incredible performance with the new A10X Fusion chip. The on-screen keyboard has been redesigned as well. It will be like the Finder app in macOS and all local as well as cloud storage files will be available within one app. Cloud storage services include iCloud, Dropbox and Box.
