Atletico to offer Griezmann new contract as Manchester United cool interest

It is understood that the Old Trafford hierarchy were willing to pay his £84m buy-out clause, a situation that would have left Atletico helpless to prevent him leaving, having naturally decided not to consider any sale due to the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to uphold a Federation Internationale de Football Association ban on the club registering players this summer.

As Atletico can not buy players until January, it is anticipated they will offer Griezmann a new contract.

Antoine Griezmann has made an apparent pledge of allegiance to Atletico Madrid hours after Manchester United cooled their interest in a summer transfer.

Another transfer deal that is in danger because of the ban involves Kevin Gameiro, another Atletico Madrid forward, who is being linked with Tottenham. Atletico, who appealed the ban in April, were reported to be hoping to sell striker Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United and replace him with another Frenchman, Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette.

Griezmann now has a buyout clause of £87 million, but Giggs does not think United's interest has died down.

"This ruling is unfair and causes an irreparable damage to our club", said Atletico in a statement.

AS sources believe Griezmann will be at the club next season and that Atletico's next pressing task is extending Fernando Torres' stay, with the Spaniard having scored eight goals in 31 La Liga appearances this season.

The CAS said in a statement: "The CAS panel has confirmed the FIFA AC (appeal committee) decision with the exception of the fine of CHF 900,000 which has been reduced to CHF 550,000".

The France worldwide is believed to be a top target for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as he looks to add more quality to his squad for the club's return to the Champions League next season. He had signed for Atleti one year back.
