Bernie Sanders Congratulates Jeremy Corbyn On UK Election Gains

Former Treasury chief George Osborne - who was sacked by May previous year - called May a "dead woman walking", and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he was ready to contest another election at any time.

Corbyn's newly energized Labour Party officially backs Brexit - since voters endorsed it in a referendum previous year - but many important figures in the party advocate a much "softer" approach, and their views now may now carry sway.

Mrs May says she will form a government with the Democratic Unionist Party from Northern Ireland, which won 10 seats.

DUP leader Arlene Foster confirmed she will enter talks with May in an effort to pursue "stability" in Parliament, without giving further details on the conditions for the party's support.

Cameron, gambling that Britons wouldn't want to sever their network of ties with the continent, had promised the Brexit referendum during a 2015 election campaign that gave Conservatives a surprise Parliamentary majority.

"The mandate she's got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence", he said. "Whatever the results, the Conservative party will remain the party of stability".

"The last thing business leaders need is a parliament in paralysis, and the consequences for British businesses and for the United Kingdom as an investment destination would be severe", said Stephen Martin, director general of the Institute of Directors business lobby. Steven Fielding, a professor of politics at the University of Nottingham, called her "a zombie prime minister".

"Britain is a member of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, so we have a lot of shared challenges to deal with, and that's the spirit we want to carry out these negotiations in".

Ms. May said the government would guide the country through critical Brexit talks, due to take place later this month, suggesting there would be no change to the timeline. But the uncertainty of a hung parliament has raised concerns about Britain's ability to negotiate divorce terms by then, that would ensure that people and businesses are not stuck in legal limbo.

It's unclear what role the attacks and their aftermath played in the election result.

The Labour leader, who survived an attempt to oust him by his own MPs before the election, now expects that he will be able to attract some of the party's biggest names to serve on his front bench.

May also reappointed an old adversary - Michael Gove, a former rival for the Conservative leadership whom May fired from the Cabinet when she took office past year.

Traders will turn their attention to next week's US Federal Reserve policy meeting, where the central bank is widely expected to deliver this year's second rate hike, Harajli said. "I would have thought that's enough to go, actually, and make way for a government that will be truly representative of all of the people of this country".
