British police detain more people over London Bridge attack

May said Monday Britain will review its counter-terrorism strategy and consider extending prison terms.

How did the attack unfold?

May's office on Sunday issued a statement saying it was working with Khan after the attack in London.

London's Metropolitan Police said they will release the identities of the attackers "as soon as operationally possible".

The 31-year-old, who moved from Brisbane to London six months ago is now recovering in hospital, the Courier Mail. In the first incident on Saturday, a speeding van mowed down pedestrians on the London bridge.

In this image made from PA Video footage, people receive medical attention in Thrale Street, near the London Bridge.

Witnesses say three men fled the van with large knives and attacked people at bars and restaurants in nearby Borough Market.

Ignacio Echeverría, a 39-year-old resident of London, has not been traced by his family since he was on his way home after skating in a park with his friends when they saw one of the terrorists stabbing a woman near Borough Market.

"We were very scared", she said, adding that glass was smashed at the front of her house. "The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes".

Four police officers were among those injured, two of them seriously.

One of the attackers was shown in a photograph lying on the ground outside the Wheatsheaf pub.

It was reported that his girlfriend, Marie Bondeville, was also injured.

The Metropolitan Police opened a casualty bureau for those anxious about the whereabouts of people they know.

Who was involved in the attacks?

As of press release time, the Indonesian Embassy said that there were no Indonesians among victims of the terror attack.

Gov. -Gen. David Johnston tweeted about the attack, calling it "evil and senseless".

He also praised the "extraordinary" response from Londoners and emergency services.

The first victim of the London Bridge and Borough Market terror attacks has been named.

She called for a review of counterterrorism strategy. He said: "We've spoken to seven to eight people".

In their first joint appearance overseas, Mr Mattis and Mr Tillerson spoke alongside their Australian counterparts at the opening of a joint meeting expected to touch on a range of subjects including defeating the Islamic State group, stabilising Afghanistan and dealing with North Korea's nuclear threats.

Islamic State, which is losing territory in Syria and Iraq to an offensive backed by a US-led coalition, said its militants were responsible for the attack, according to the group's media agency Amaq.

Police vans were parked outside a property on the A13 in Dagenham in east London.

A Canadian national and a Frenchman were among those killed, while seven other French nationals were wounded and another remains unaccounted for.

Christine Archibald, from Castlegar, B.C.

Her family said in a statement: "We grieve the loss of our handsome, loving daughter and sister". They added that she "would have had no understanding of the callous cruelty that caused her death".

Cassie Ferguson Rowe says her brother, Tyler Ferguson, held her and she died in his arms.

The attackers carried out their operation in two different locations in London.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian was due to visit Britain on Monday to speak to the injured French nationals, after President Emmanuel Macron said France was "more than ever at Britain's side". Seven people were killed by the three attackers, and 21 remain in critical condition.

What are the political implications?

"All Americans stand in solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in the statement.

Most parties have suspended campaigning before the June 8 general election.

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron branded Mr Trump "the biggest blowhard in the world" following his tweets.

After more than 20 people were killed in a bomb attack last month at a concert in Manchester, England, Trump condemned the assault as the act of “evil losers” and called on nations to band together to fight terrorism. It was reduced to "severe", which means an attack is highly likely, on May 27.

Before armed officers arrived, unarmed police did their best to confront the attackers.
