Chicago Protesters Blast Trump Pullout Of Paris Accord

Buildings in cities from Boston to Paris lit up in green that night to show support for the agreement and a commitment to battling climate change.

Washington business leaders are vowing to set their own for carbon reduction, despite the President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

"We are grateful to Bloomberg Philanthropies for this generous contribution", UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said in a news release about the funding pledge.

"I want the world to know that the USA will meet its Paris commitments and that through partnerships among cities, states and businesses we will seek to remain part of the Paris agreement process", Bloomberg said. This as American cites, states and companies are preparing to submit a plan to the United Nations pledging to honor greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris terms anyway.

Around 150 mayors, who say they represent 47 million Americans, have also committed to uphold the Paris commitments, intensify efforts to meet climate goals and increase investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Following the decision, Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced he plans to form a United States Climate Alliance, along with the governors of NY and California.

New York's Bill de Blasio, mayor of America's most populous city, told WNYC radio that he wanted to "surpass" his commitment to reduce emissions 80 percent by 2050. She wants Congress to take similar action.

- Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a self-made billionaire who has been outspoken about climate change and environmental issue for many years, is promising millions of dollars to bolster programs under the global climate accord that President Donald Trump has dumped.

"If this coalition broadens and deepens at the pace that it appears to be, I think the Trump effect could be more than mitigated", added Orr, now dean of the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland.

"And there isn't anything Washington can do to stop us".

The announcement follows Trump's decision to pull out of the climate deal that almost 200 nations agreed to in late 2015.
