Deadly explosions reported at funeral in Kabul

At least 20 have been killed in three explosions in a cemetery at the funeral of a protester in Afghani capital, Kabul.

As per the report, three blasts took place in the city near a cemetery where Senator Ezadyar's son is being buried. Officials confirmed that at least 10 people were killed and wounded in the attack that shaken the funeral of an Afghan man who died during protests over the intensifying security situation in Kabul.

Ezadyar is deputy speaker for the upper house of the country's parliament.

The demonstration followed the explosion of a huge truck bomb on Wednesday that killed more than 80 people and wounded 460 - one of the deadliest attacks seen in Kabul since the USA -led campaign that toppled the Islamist Taliban in 2001.

An anti-government protest spiraled into a deadly street battle Friday, with security forces opening fire and using armored vehicles to chase demonstrators angered by a massive truck bombing earlier this week.

Riot police used water cannon and tear gas to block protesters from reaching the road leading to the presidential palace.

This comes just hours after two high-ranking security officials warned members of the public against attending mass gatherings.

On Saturday, General Murad Ali Murad, deputy interior minister, urged demonstrators to disperse because of a high security threat level in the country.

President Ashraf Ghani Ghani, meanwhile, met with senior security officials during an emergency security meeting. A statement from the president's office said the meeting determined that an investigation must find out what exactly happened that led to the violence and identify those who acted against the law. He said the explosions came from a trio of suicide bombers and demanded an investigation into how the attackers were able to get so close to a funeral attended by senior government officials.

A U.S. State Department official said 11 American contractors were wounded, none with life-threatening injuries.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
