Fans already lining up for Penguins' Stanley Cup parade

The Pittsburgh Penguins aren't even 24 hours removed from winning and celebrating with the Stanley Cup and we already have some important roster moves to discuss.

The Penguins didn't trade Fleury in the offseason though. Should Pittsburgh trade the 32-year-old Fleury to another club, it would have to make another goaltender available in the expansion draft. The Penguins want to protect Matt Murray, but the decision to expose Fleury was hard because the organization has so much respect for him.

Although Vegas reportedly has interest in the two-time All-Star, Fleury's no-movement clause allows him to be traded to 18 teams, according to multiple reports, so the Penguins have options. Would they buy him out?

I'll have a reflection about Fleury's Pittsburgh career in a later post.

The Vegas Golden Knights are set to debut this fall, but before that, there is the rather important matter of adding players to their roster.

This is where the situation gets really interesting.

In any regard, Fleury's time with Pittsburgh appears to be nearing its anticipated end. If he waives the former to be exposed to the Golden Knights, he will still have the latter as protection. As Pierre LeBrun mentioned, this doesn't mean that things can't change, but as it stands, the waive only applies to the Golden Knights.

The Penguins' franchise leader in goaltender wins (375) and shutouts (44), Fleury has two years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $5.75 million per season.

National Hockey League teams won't submit their protection lists for the expansion draft until Saturday morning, but the Vegas Golden Knights may have already found their goalie.
