Giggs: Griezmann Is Still On United's Radar

The ban means Atletico could not have registered a replacement for Griezmann until January and the player tweeted on Thursday night to say: 'Now more than ever #Atleti'.

Antoine Griezmann appeared to signal he is staying at Atletico Madrid this summer amid transfer links to Manchester United.

United have prioritised signing a No 9 ahead of pursuing an £86 million deal for Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann, as Sportsmail revealed on Thursday.

A host of British media outlets, including The Guardian, are stating that Manchester United have ended their interest in Antoine Griezmann, while The Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho wants Lyon superstar Alexandre Lacazette instead.

But reports on Thursday in the United Kingdom media claimed the Premier League giants had cooled their interest in the 26-year-old, who is understood to have a €100million release clause in his Atleti contract.

Two tabloids have the same story on their back pages on Saturday, as the Express and the Star both report on Man United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

While speaking in his role as an ambassador for the UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff, Giggs told Sky Sports: "I'm not so sure if we've heard the end of that".

"I know it goes beyond their pay structure and Mr (Daniel) Levy would have a lot of people rapping on his door asking for rises".

The squad has enough No 10s without needing to add 26-goal Griezmann who has played as a centre-forward but has been more effective deeper.

Atletico Madrid said the ban, which restricts them from registering any new players until January 2018, "causes irreparable damage to our club".

"They need to bring players in who'll score goals, and one goalscorer who's going to get 20-plus".
