India, Pakistan become full members of SCO

"Whether it is the issue of extremism, terrorists recruitments or their financial resources, it will not be resolved unless all the countries work together", Modi said. PM Modi conducted several bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit and also exchanged cordial pleasantries with his Pakistani counterpart despite tense relations between the two neighbouring nations.

Modi said that both nations "should enhance cooperation and coordination in worldwide affairs and deal with sensitive issues between the two countries", according to Hua.

He also favoured early completion of the China-India-Bangladesh-Myanmar connectivity project in order to boost trade between the four countries.

"Obviously, the main threat to the security of the SCO states is, above all, terrorism", Putin said during the SCO summit in the Kazakh capital Astana, the Kremlin said in a statement.

A day before, Prime Minister Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 17th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and discussed bilateral relations where the latter pointed out that the worldwide environment was undergoing profound and complex changes. The press release stated that the leaders had praised "the outcomes of the Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum" held in Beijing on May 14 and May 15.

He added that India and Pakistan are now the members of the SCO and through this membership, India has got a very crucial platform in the Central Asia.

Noting that India may have gained membership only today, Modi said its relationship with the SCO countries were historical. Pakistan became a full member of the SCO.

The reason for the boycott was India's concerns over the $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), headed by Chinese President Xi, and which passes via Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). All members described India's accession to SCO as historic and said it would strengthen security and promote regional cooperation among member countries.

News of their kiling was published just before the SCO summit on June 8-9, in which Pakistan and India were made members.
