IS threatens attacks in Saudi Arabia

Iran said its security forces on Saturday killed the mastermind of a twin attack on Tehran that left 17 people dead this week, as security was tightened around the country to prevent other possible plots.

The Tehran Security Council had convened an emergency meeting after two terror attacks occurred on the Iranian Parliament and Imam Khomeini Mausoleum respectively on Wednesday.

That was condemned by the Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, who tweeted: "Repugnant WH [White House] statement.as Iranians counter-terror backed by U.S. clients". "Iranian people reject such USA claims of friendship", Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeted.

The University College said it sympathised with the good people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the attack by the terrorist group on June 7, which claimed 16 lives and injured many others. Saudi Arabia said it was not involved.

Police said a further five people were arrested around Khomeini's shrine on suspicion of involvement.

"We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote", the White House statement declared.

Iran says the attackers, who were all killed, had fought for the IS group in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

President Donald Trump in a statement suggested that Iran bears some culpability for attacks in its capital.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the attacks will add to the hatred that Iranians harbor toward the USA and Saudi Arabia.

Iran's intelligence minister Mahmoud Alavi said that 43 suspects had been arrested by Satursday night and that operations to identify more "terrorist cells" were under way.

On a recent trip to Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia, Trump called on all nations to "isolate" Iran.

The mastermind of the Tehran attacks has been killed Saturday outside of Iran in an Iranian-led operation in coordination with the intelligence of "a friendly foreign country", Iran's intelligence minister has said. At least some of the attackers reportedly disguised themselves by wearing women's clothing, using guns and explosives to cause mayhem at the mausoleum and parliament, or Majlis.

Iran blamed the Wednesday attacks on Saudi Arabia, casting them in the context of a broader regional conflict that encompasses the war inside Syria.

Trump said the USA would "grieve and pray" for the victims, but added: "We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote".
