Ivanka Trump says her father is optimistic

The appearance by Attorney General Jeff Sessions before the Senate intelligence committee Tuesday afternoon may lack the hearing-of-the-century theatrics surrounding former FBI Director James Comey.

CNN reported that during a closed session that followed the public hearing last week, Comey said Sessions may have had a third undisclosed meeting with Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

Comey said Trump told Sessions and other administration officials to leave the room before Trump asked him in February to drop a probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation. But senators on the committee are expected to question Sessions about his meetings with Russians - a topic that's come under increased scrutiny amid investigations into Russia's interference in the USA election.

He was an early and vocal supporter of Trump during the campaign, when most Republican lawmakers dismissed the candidate. "That's a question for the committee", said Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores.

Sessions is scheduled to testify Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence committee and was due for sharp questioning.

"As NPR's Carrie Johnson recently reported on All Things Considered: "[Sources] are telling me Trump has been very angry with Jeff Sessions for recusing himself in the Russian Federation investigation to begin with, lots of profane conversations and yelling.

But behind the scenes, there was significant pushback from Democrats - including Senate Intelligence Committee vice chairman Mark Warner - who raised objections with Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr that Sessions may be trying to skirt public scrutiny.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a decision blocking the ban and said the president violated U.S. immigration law.

On Monday, the White House again refused to confirm or deny if Mr Trump had recorded his conversations with Mr Comey, as the president previously seemed to hint. The president said he is willing to testify under oath on these points.

After Sessions' sudden announcement over the weekend that he would appear before the committee, there had been confusion about whether he would testify publicly or in private.

Perhaps the real reason Trump wants the end of this investigation is because people in the media keep pushing the "guilty until proven innocent" meme without any proof.

Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer advised Trump to "stop talking" Sunday before he finds himself in legal trouble. Barring the emergence of evidence such as a surreptitious recording of the conversation - Trump tweeted that Comey had better hope there are no tapes - deciding which of the two men's accounts is factual may depend on which details most accurately reflect others' recollections.

Republicans have moved to downplay the Russian Federation controversy in the wake of Comey's testimony, claiming the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director affirmed some of Trump's key claims. Also, Trump supposedly asked for a public statement that he was not under investigation.

If he says he has no concerns, which we should fully expect, his answer will be replayed if and when more information comes out about who on the campaign knew what.

The judges say the president violated US immigration law by discriminating against people based on their nationality and that Trump failed to show their entry into the country would hurt American interests.

Sessions requested Monday that the testimony be presented in an open meeting, something Democrats had been pushing for. "The only two people who know what happened in those meetings are the president and James Comey", Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told Fox.
