London Bridge on lockdown, two dead

Gunfire at Borough Market has also been confirmed by police, as has a third incident in the Vauxhall area.

Nick Brandon of British Transport Police said the force had received reports of "multiple" casualties.

Mr Trump initially retweeted a Drudge Report item about the attacks, then provided his own message about the travel ban. "Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U.K., we will be there", he tweeted. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn described incidents in central London as "brutal and shocking" after reports that a van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge and that there were multiple stabbings in the nearby Borough Market area.

London Ambulance Services said it has taken at least 20 patients to at least six hospitals.

At 10.08 p.m. BST Saturday night (5.08 p.m. ET), London Metropolitan officers responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians on London Bridge.

Mr Trump later called Prime Minister Theresa May to offer his condolences.

Witnesses reported seeing injured people on the ground on the bridge.

"My thoughts are with everyone affected", London's mayor said while also thanking emergency service members.

A spokesman for May says the prime minister is in contact with officials and is being regularly updated.

Responding officers shot and killed three male suspects, police say. BBC showed dozens of people, evidently having been caught up in the attack, being escorted through a police cordon with their hands on their heads. She continued, "One of them had a big knife, then he came in and walked around the restaurant, I guess they just kind of stabbed anyone that they saw and knocked things on the ground and then we just hid".

Another witness, who was in the cafe, said a man with a "massive knife" entered Elliot's Cafe at Borough Market, just south of the bridge, and stabbed two people inside. "Armed officers responded and shots have been fired", one tweet said. His injuries were not life threatening, police said.

He told BBC Radio 5Live: "It veered to the right and people were trying to run away from it".

Transport for London says busy London Bridge station has been closed at the request of police.

"Info available at this stage: from 2208 hrs (10:08 pm) officers responded to reports of a vehicle in collision with pedestrians on #London Bridge".

"These apparent terrorist attacks are cowardly and senseless acts that go against everything we believe in, and a sad and sobering reminder of the threats we face today", he added.

The incident comes less than two weeks after a suicide bomber detonated a device after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, on May 22, killing 22 people and injuring 59.

British police say they are dealing with an "incident" on London Bridge.
