Man Utd to sign Swedish defender Lindelof

United have reportedly agreed on a fee with Benfica for the Swedish defender, with only his medical left to complete.

The 22-years-old, who is thought to have cost United £31 million ($39 million) excluding performance-related bonuses, is Jose Mourinho's first purchase of the summer.

Victor Lindelof will undergo his medical next week after Manchester United confirmed a deal is in place to sign the centre-back from Benfica this summer, according to the Mirror.

"A further announcement will be made once the deal is complete".

Despite Mourinho's desire to improve at the back, United didn't fare poorly in the Premier League last season by any stretch.

"I have no clue if one day I'll be a United player, but I'll keep working so it stops being a rumour and becomes reality".

Pereira has been on the Red Devils' books since 2012 and has been given the chance to make a handful of first-team appearances over recent years.

The Telegraph are reporting that Chris Smalling could be on his way out of Manchester United, with West Ham United, West Brom and Everton said to be interested in signing the 27-year-old.

"We've got young Keane has done exceptionally well at Burnley, we're looking to bring him back at Manchester United for £28m, all of a sudden Lindelof is 30 [million]", Wilkins told Sky Sports. With Benfica, Lindelof won three Primeira Liga titles and was named to the UEFA Champions League "Breakthrough XI" in 2016. The Brazil worldwide has attracted a lot of interest across Europe with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City keeping tabs on the player.

The Premier League is obviously a step-up from the Portuguese top flight, but Seb Larsson has tipped his compatriot to be able to cope.
