Mario Kart is Coming to HTC Vive at Tokyo's VR Zone

This could very well lead to more Nintendo VR experiences in the future, depending on the success of this one.

Few details are known about Mario Kart Arcade GP VR, but we can only hope it'll be coming to an arcade near us soon.

Players sit in a metal rig created to look like a go-kart, wearing an HTC Vive headset as well as sensors on both of their hands.

Nintendo has made it clear that it doesn't plan to support virtual reality with the Nintendo Switch yet.

The company is dipping its toe with a small mini "VR Zone Portal" venue first, opening in London this summer with 3-4 new VR IP present. The race is seen in the first person, and famous "Mario Kart" items such as the red and blue shells are tossed at opponents by gesturing with your hands.

Have you ever wanted to play Mario Kart in full 3D? Complete with virtual reality visuals, provided by the HTC Vive, the experience also looks to utilise a motion platform rig, complete with steering wheel.

"With the flagship VR Zone Shinjuku being the hub, we'd like to spread VR Zone facilities around the world", Yoshiyasu Horiuchi, an executive at Bandai Namco, said during a news conference at the firm's headquarters.

However, that hasn't stopped Bandai Namco creating a VR version of Mario Kart Arcade GP, which is now available on the HTC Vive headset.

Nintendo aren't likely to bring Mario Kart 8 to a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) any time soon, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on slinging bananas and shells in VR.
