McIlroy hopes to be sharp in return from injury

Barring a weather event that no one expects, the U.S. Open will have a look that no one has seen in almost a quarter-century. Open Championship and push hardest for a major championship? "Even the first and second cut [of intermediate rough] is another 10 yards on top of that", McIlroy said on Tuesday.

"Sightlines off tees are very important but if you can get comfortable with those, they say a course is only blind once". This was no time to take a big risk and cost himself spots on the leaderboard when he needed a high finish toward getting a tour card.

"I think it's just luck to be honest". "I don't expect McIlroy to be clicking on all cylinders at the start, but I think his goal is to peak on the weekend". You're just putting more effort into each round.

"Everyone is going to run into some sort of trouble out there; everyone".

During his Memorial Tournament two weeks ago, Jack Nicklaus, victor of a record 18 major titles, speculated that Woods' 14 titles in a 46-major span, starting at age 21, emboldened a generation of players to believe they could compete with the best right away.

McIlroy is deep into his practice at the US Open course Erin Hills, which contains 14 dauntingly blind tee shots and only five trees across the whole course. And I feel like it's the same thing here.

"And there have been a couple of times where I have let it get in my head".

I'm of the opinion that because of the insane wide fairways, the USGA should have left everything alone and let the course play as it stands. You can be really creative.

Paul Azinger, a 12-time victor on the PGA Tour and current analyst for Fox, sees the lack of play rather than the injury as McIlroy's biggest hurdle. I've added a few events to my schedule, so looking forward to a busy summer.

"And whether or not I feel as though I am under-cooked, well I would answer that by saying rather than a feeling like a piece of rare chicken, I feel more like a juicy steak".

What that means is hitting two bags of balls a day as opposed to five. It's a matter of how you handle yourself in those moments.

"I was thinking about it recently; I can't remember the last time I was in Queensland so it would be nice to be able to play the PGA Championship in my home state, close to where I have family". Definitely like the golf courses up here.

This is what happens every year, whether it's setup, conditioning, or weather, the course is always the star at the U.S. Open.

Take Oakmont, host of a record nine U.S. Opens and where Dustin Johnson won a year ago, which dates to 1903.

Best Brit: JUSTIN ROSE hasn't set the world alight since losing a play-off to Sergio Garcia at Augusta, but the 2013 US Open champ is focussing on peaking for the Majors. "It will definitely be a more comfortable experience (at Erin Hills), considering that we did get some of the awe and some of the grandeur out of the way a year ago". There were so many options depending on how I did.

And, like in any US Open, they need to be coming into the tournament in great form.

"But I'm still working out hard, I'm still working on my game as much as I can and as hard as possible".

The other players in the field with Southern Nevada ties are Las Vegas native Scott Piercy, former UNLV star Adam Scott, Las Vegas resident and former Rebel Charley Hoffman and current Rebel John Oda.

"I've been fortunate to be consistent throughout my whole career".
