Modi to hold first talks with Trump on June 26 in Washington

Modi had first spoke to Trump over phone on November 9 soon after he's been elected as the US President.

According to reports, Modi will be meeting Trump on June 25-26.

"Their discussions will provide a new direction for deeper bilateral engagement on issues of mutual interest and consolidation of multi-dimensional strategic partnership between India and the USA", the ministry said in a statement. Not only that, he said India signed the treaty to get aid benefits. India signed the Paris climate pact not because of pressure from any country or due to lure of money.

Modi's flagship "Make In India" policy, created to reboot local manufacturing and ramp up exports in tandem with foreign investors, could also run aground on Trump's "America first" instincts. During her annual press conference last week, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had said Modi will raise the issue with Trump.

Given the focus of the upcoming visit, Modi will be in Washington and the Indian delegation will be occupied with engagements with the White House and top administration officials.

Under the previous administration, Prime Minister Modi had a record eight meetings with former USA president Barack Obama. "I believe it's later this month", Nauert had said.

PM Modi last visited U.S. in June 2016 at the invitation of the then USA president Barack Obama.

Modi travelled to Washington three times after taking over as Indian PM while Obama was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in 2015. The Trump administration is also looking to put a cap on the H1-B work visa, there by putting thousands of Indian engineers at risk of losing their jobs.
