Pakistan waging 'undeclared war' against Afghanistan: Ghani

All of those killed were Afghans. All of those killed were Afghans, and Ghani paid specific homage to 13 policemen who stopped the truck as it tried to enter the fortified district and were killed in the blast. Mohammad Alam Izadyar, and died of injuries sustained as Afghan security forces cracked down on the protesters in the streets.

Wednesday's attack near Kabul's heavily protected diplomatic area killed at least 90 people and injured over 350 others.

The president made a strong plea for peace at an worldwide conference on Afghanistan attended by about two dozen countries, which was held under tight security as armored vehicles patrolled the streets and fighter jets roared over the capital.

Representatives of around twenty-five countries and organizations, including Pakistan, are attending the meeting, which aims to build worldwide support on ways to restore security in the country. Pakistan has also been telling the Afghan side to check misuse of its soil against Pakistan but so far no tangible action has been taken.

It was followed on Saturday by another bombing that killed seven people and wounding dozens at a funeral of a prominent anti-government protester.

Pakistan's foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz in a statement on Sunday said he "strongly rejected the baseless and unfounded allegations" that Pakistan had any involvement with the May 31 bombing.

"This is something that the Afghans want to lead".

The situation becomes murkier as Afghan Taliban have categorically stated that they had nothing to do with these attacks and instead they condemned them.

"May Allah strengthen all those working for peace".

"Signing mutual non-interference or anti-terror support agreements won't change anything", said Thomas Ruttig, co-director of the Afghanistan Analysts Network, noting that similar accords had been signed in the past.

Earlier on today, Afghanistan's president invited the Taliban to peace talks, calling it their "last chance" to give up their 16-year insurgency and join the political process.

The U.S. and its allies officially ended combat missions in the country in 2014 and now fulfill a support and counter-terrorism role.

Peace talks with the insurgent group have faltered, and the Taliban said Tuesday that it will negotiate directly with the government only after foreign troops leave Afghanistan.
