Saudi Arabian Airlines says suspends all flights to Qatar

Doha airport, along with airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, have become major hubs after Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways seized a significant chunk of transcontinental travel on routes linking Western countries with Asia and Australasia.

India will not be impacted by some Gulf countries cutting off diplomatic ties with Qatar, foreign affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said on Monday.

Borders have been closed between the countries and air and sea traffic has been suspended between the peninsular nation and a number of other states. Al Jazeera is now blocked in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The crisis began in late May when Qatar alleged that hackers took over the site of its state-run news agency and published what it called fake comments from its ruling emir about Iran and Israel. "It is also the end of the Muslim Brotherhood presence in Qatar", he wrote.

"Another theory is that this is a product of month's tension, all brought to a breaking point after the Qatar news agency hacking story".

Qatar had no immediate reaction to the announcements, and Qatari officials could not be reached for comment, but it has denied supporting terrorism or Iran in the past.

"We certainly would encourage the parties to sit down together and address these differences". Its Gulf Arab neighbors responded with anger, blocking Qatari-based media, including Al-Jazeera.

A split between Doha and its closest allies can have repercussions around the Middle East, where Gulf states have used their financial and political power to influence events in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

The Afghan Taliban opened an office in Doha in 2013. Their target is a country with a population smaller than Houston, but with a sovereign wealth fund holding stakes in global companies from Barclays Plc to Credit Suisse Group.

At that Saudi conference, Trump met with Qatar's ruling emir.

"What we're seeing is a growing list of some irritants in the region that have been there for some time", Tillerson said. "Our relationship is extremely good".
