Secret Service says it has no Trump tapes

The department provided Anadolu Agency with a copy of its response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request originally filed by the Wall Street Journal news outlet.

The U.S. Secret Service says it has no records of any recording systems or transcripts of any conversations President Trump may have had in the White House.

The Secret Service said that they would have no further comments on the matter.

Donald Trump's suggestion that there were "tapes" of conversations between himself and then-FBI Director James Comey appears to be yet another fabrication of the beleaguered president.

The agency is tasked with protecting the president and did not rule out other government agencies could have carried out recordings.

For his part, Trump has repeatedly fueled speculation of White House recordings, first alluding to their possible existence in a tweet shortly following his decision to fire Comey.

Trump suggested on Friday, following Comey's hearing, that the press will find out in a "very short period of time" whether any tapes exist.

At Monday's White House Press briefing, Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Mr. Trump would address the issue of any tapes "when he's ready".

The Journal's request sought recordings or transcripts of any recordings made after January 20 at the White House.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said last week she wasn't aware of whether the White House had any kind of taping system and suggested reporters check with the Secret Service on any security-related questions.
