Suspected N. Korean drone snapped THAAD photos - S. Korean officials

North Korea on Wednesday called on South Korea to take actions to ease military tensions along the inter-Korean border ahead of the 17th anniversary of a historic summit between the two Koreas.

A South Korean Defense Ministry official, who spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity, said that the drone was found in a South Korean Border town and that it taken 10 photos of a U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) site located in Seongju.

According to Yonhap News, the small unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a Sony-made camera was found last week on a mountain near the inter-Korean border.

South Korean officials recently stumbled upon what is believed to be a North Korean drone that didn't make it back home.

Eyes are focused on the agenda for the talks, especially regarding the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system to South Korean soil.

However, even if Moon manages to thread the diplomatic needles, his vision will also face strong opposing bids from the United Kingdom, and Uruguay and Argentina, which are putting forward a joint bid to host the tournament on the hundredth anniversary of the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay.

With so much information available to the public, North Korea had no trouble pinpointing the location of the THAAD battery.

North Korea did not participate in the 1988 Seoul Olympics but South Korean officials hope they will send a team to next year's Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Seoul's former conservative government closed the industrial zone in February 2016 after North Korea tested a long-range rocket in defiance of global sanctions.

Moon, who suggested during his successful campaign for a May 9 election that he could try to renegotiate the deal, also said the two countries should not "cling to past history" only to block other developments in their ties.

North Korea and its evolving nuclear and missile capabilities are widely expected to be a top item on the agenda for the Moon-Trump meeting.

Seoul closed down the Kaesong Industrial Complex in February 2016 in response to North Korea's nuclear and missile tests.

However, the South Korean government has never acknowledged that any civilian massacre took place at the hands of its troops, the Los Angeles Times reported in an article in May 2015.

The globally isolated state does not have diplomatic relations with Japan or South Korea.

Last month, a top American military commander in Seoul said the deployment of THAAD in South Korea is seen as a critical part of efforts to lessen North Korea's leverage from asymmetric weapons.
