Trump impeachment rally set for Philly next month

"As the investigations move forward, additional evidence supporting additional Articles of Impeachment may emerge", Sherman wrote in a letter to his colleagues.

On Sunday, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said there is evidence to begin a case for obstruction of justice against Trump. It is obvious that the normal methods used in the past to control presidents - exposés and shaming in the news media, congressional investigations, being the constant butt of jokes by late-night comedians and so on - do not work with Trump.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has also called for Trump's impeachment and led chants of "Impeach 45" at LA Pride's #ResistMarch over the weekend. Trump has denied telling former FBI Director James Comey to back off on the Flynn probe.

But given Comey's bombshell statements last week about the president's inappropriate comments to him, Sherman said it's Congress' job to hold Trump accountable.

Green is now working on additional attempts to charge Trump on other obstructions of justice, as well as other actions that would cause separate impeachment articles, noted The Hill.

The legendary California Democrat said the "facts are not there" yet to make the case for impeachment. "But we must move forward as quickly as possible to ensure a competent government that respects the Constitution and the rule of law, even if we end up with a president who is effective and dedicated to regressive policies". As of press time, it had not been introduced in the House.

"I have no illusions", he said.

Impeachment of a president is rare.

Sherman's office did not immediately return a request for comment on when he plans to formally file the resolution containing the article of impeachment against Trump and how long he would give the Judiciary Committee to act before pushing for a floor vote.

"But given the risk posed to the Republic, we should move things forward as quickly as possible", he said. However, it is not limited to just criminal behavior.

The House must initiate impeachment proceedings, and the Senate is charged with carrying out impeachment trials.
