Trump invited to testify about his interactions with Comey

"He likes to bring people up to date on what he's done", Comey's father said.

"The way that it was handled, with no follow-up, with no other press, with no other return to that topic, It looks like what I called a pretty light touch" Lankford also said on "Face the Nation" in reference to the February 14 conversation.

Comey's remarks drew an angry response from the president on Friday accusing Comey of lying. But according to Comey, this comment came in the middle of an attempt by Trump to get Comey to "lift the cloud" of the Russian Federation investigation off of the Trump administration.

"He just laughs when I talk about leaking", the elder Comey said of his son.

The Trump administration fired Comey in early May, citing his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation during the 2016 USA presidential elections.

Nearly a month after suggesting that he recorded conversations with Comey in the White House, writing in an early-morning Twitter message that "Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations, " the president has yet to definitely answer the question of whether any such tapes even exist. The Justice Department has denied that, saying Sessions stressed to Comey the need to be careful about following appropriate policies.

Comey also said he thinks Trump fired him over the Russian Federation investigation. Comey was leading that probe. Democrats - who have never been the biggest fans of Sessions - say it's time for the Attorney General to talk.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California said Sunday she agrees with GOP lawmakers uneasy about Lynch's request.

She said Sessions should also testify before the Judiciary Committee, because it was better suited to explore legal questions of possible obstruction.

But, he said, "Trump's lawyer was also smart because he's filing these complaints in places that don't mean anything".

Sessions stepped aside in March from the federal investigation into contacts between Russia and the campaign after acknowledging that he had met twice a year ago with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. The former senator from Alabama told lawmakers at his January confirmation hearing that he had not met with Russians during the campaign. Comey declined to elaborate in an open setting.

Senator James Lankford, Republican of Oklahoma, said on CBS's Face the Nation Sunday that the committee is still in a "final conversation" with Sessions but assumes the hearing would be public.
