Trump's withdrawal from Paris Climate Accord a 'great disappointment'

There is provision to withdraw, but notice can be given only three years after entry.

Only Syria and Nicaragua did not sign up to the deal.

Russian Federation joined the chorus speaking out for the climate accord. He added that the Paris Accord "is very unfair, at the highest level" to the United States.

Before the formal EU-China summit got underway, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told a business conference on Friday that China and the EU recognized the need for global solutions and this was nowhere more important than full implementation of the Paris agreement. So, withdrawal would take effect a year after that, meaning November 2020, a date that coincides with the next U.S. presidential election - raising the prospect that the issue remains alive during the campaign. He had once tweeted that the concept of global warming was "created by and for the Chinese in order to make USA manufacturing non-competitive".

Trump has made a decision to take his country out of the Paris climate control agreement which has led to Tesla owner Elon Musk leaving his position on the president's advisory council.

The United States is the world's second-largest greenhouse gas emitter after China, so Trump's decision could seriously hamper efforts to cut emissions and limit global temperature increases.

I spoke with President Trump on Tuesday and tried to persuade him to keep the U.S.in the agreement.

Backing for the decision has not only come from Republicans and Trump supporters, but also from some climate experts.

He said that remaining in the 2015 agreement would undermine the USA economy, cost United States jobs, weaken American national sovereignty and put the country at a permanent disadvantage to the other countries of the world.

"The nations that remain in the Paris Agreement will be the nations that reap the benefits in jobs and industries created", read the statement. In a briefing after the speech, someone reportedly asked whether the president thinks climate change is real, and a White House official replied "Can we stay on topic?"

How does Trump's decision affect India - and everyone else?

Former US President Barack Obama, who agreed to the Paris deal, immediately criticised the move, accusing the Trump administration of "rejecting the future".

Mary Robinson, member of the group and former United Nations special envoy on climate change said the USA "reneging on its commitment to the Paris Agreement renders it a rogue state on the worldwide stage".

Inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk said he would keep his promise to end his participation in two presidential councils after Trump issued his decision.

"This includes placing Scott Pruitt, a climate change denier, at the head of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency which has statutory authority for regulating climate change".

"President Trump's courageous decision to exit the Paris Accord recognizes that the United States is not legally bound to an Obama-era agreement that set unrealistic emissions targets at the expense of billions of American taxpayer dollars without the approval of Congress", said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who joined nine other states in urging Trump to leave the agreement.

Previously, the CEOs of Google, Facebook, Microsoft, HP and Intel sent the president a letter urging him not to take the United States out of the worldwide agreement. The automaker highlighted its development of the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle with 238 miles of range on a single charge and a net price of less than $30,000. Robert Iger, Chairman and CEO of Walt Disney, has also left "as a matter of principle". He said he would consider re-entry if the US could get a better deal.
