UK police rush to London Bridge after reports of van hitting pedestrians

Police in London are dealing with an "incident" on London Bridge, while witnesses reportedly said a vehicle struck pedestrians.

The incident bore similarities to a March attack on Westminster Bridge, west of London Bridge, in which a man killed five people after driving into a crowd of pedestrians before stabbing a police officer in the grounds of parliament. The police also say the incident at Vauxhall was a stabbing not connected to the bridge and market incidents.

The Met said in a subsequent tweet that officers had also been deployed to deal with an incident in Vauxhall.

"I saw that man with a knife in his hand and after that a man started screaming so I knew something wrong was happening", he said.

Police closed the bridge and urged the public to avoid the area.

May's office said she would chair a meeting of the government's COBRA emergency committee on Sunday. Some media reports said police were seeking another attacker.

Of the casualties, he said: "Three of them, yes (were conscious), and one guy was not talking at all, was just, like, down".

There have been no official reports yet regarding casualties, but it is clear from the attending paramedics and active police role in ordering evacuations that the situation is both serious and ongoing. She said she saw at least four or five people on the ground. As emergency services rushed to respond, reports came in of multiple stabbings at Borough Market, a popular gourmet food market with restaurants that were open and busy on a Saturday night.

Fabio Lamas was working at the Wheatsheaf Pub in Borough Market when he said he heard someone shout "knives, knives, knives" and he saw three people holding knives who appeared to be wearing body armor outside.

The attack came more than a week after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert in the northern city of Manchester and days ahead of the June 8 election, where security is a major theme. He said a panicked store manager told diners to abandon their meals and shelter in the back of the restaurant while police conducted a search of the area.

Police boats were searching the river - apparently looking for people who may have been thrown off the bridge.

A security guard told BBC he was at the Market Porter pub, next to Borough Market, when a colleague relayed reports of stabbings at the nearby Borough Bistro.

London Bridge Tube Station has been evacuated.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday evening to argue in favor of his proposed travel ban amid reports of a terror attack in London.

BBC reporter Holly Jones, who was at the scene during the incident, said the van was driven by a man and was "probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour".

According to BBC, police manning a cordon at the south side of London Bridge have confirmed multiple deaths in relation to the incident.

"Then three men got out with long blades, 12 inches long and went randomly along Borough High Street stabbing people at random".

A witness told CNN two men had entered a restaurant in the Borough Market area and stabbed two people inside.

Tony Murphy, who lives near the area, told Sky News he heard the sound of gunfire.
