Warriors' Game 5 win wraps up highly-watched NBA Finals

The third time around, there was no doubt.

The Golden State Warriors on Monday secured their second National Basketball Association championship in three seasons with a 129-120 win in Game 5 over the Cleveland Cavaliers, capping a near-perfect run through the playoffs.

Durant was on the court for 40-plus minutes in the finale, most of the time staring down James. "We prevailed, we are champions and it was unbelievable to do it on our own floor". San Antonio has 12/1 odds after finishing second to the Warriors in regular-season wins for two straight years.

"This is history", Warriors forward Andre Iguodala said. And it also helps when you are able to experience some things with this team as well.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were unstoppable carrying the team to their nine-point victory.

On Thursday the city of Oakland will honor Golden State with a parade through the downtown area that will proceed to Lake Merritt. "They showcased that throughout the postseason, and we were another opponent in their way".

Five years ago, Durant was playing his first National Basketball Association finals, and he didn't manage to win the ring with Oklahoma.

Curry had 34 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.

After all, the teams collectively wrote the rules of the game the Warriors are playing so well.

"I need to sit down and figure this thing out", James said at the podium when asked about his future.

Later, he was straightforward and serious: "We were heartbroken last year, but this year was our turn". "That's a tough play to stop".

But there's only one time in NBA history has the NBA Finals MVP award gone to a player from the losing squad - Jerry West claimed the award in the 1968-69 season, when his Lakers fell to the Boston Celtics in seven games.

"There's no doubt in my mind that he will return as the coach of this team", general manager Bob Myers told ESPN. "You've got to call Kevin Durant a champ now". "It was phenomenal to be a part of".

James, who in 2012 with Miami beat the Thunder in Durant's only other Finals, wound up with 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. "Right after you lose Game 7", Green says, "shows you're serious". "We were really good tonight", he said. "I left everything I had out on the floor every single game for five games in this Finals, and you come up short".

Beating Cleveland two out of three in the first rivalry to be featured in three consecutive finals didn't hurt the sense of drama the Warriors aroused all season. He did all this while shooting 55.6 percent from the field, 47.4 percent on three-pointers and 92.7 percent from the free throw line.

"A lot of guys cried because they wanted it bad", Lue reported of the postgame scene in the Cleveland locker room. He was followed by Curry, who took to Facebook after winning Tuesday following a reported self-imposed ban on social media, and Durant.
