DJI's 6K Zenmuse X7 Is a Super 35 Aerial Cinema Camera

DJI today introduced the new Zenmuse X7, the world's first Super 35 sensor camera for aerial cinematography.

According to the report, DJI's upcoming camera will also support recording 3.9K videos at a 59.94fps, making it suitable for 4K/60fps purposes. Created to work with the DJI Inspire 2 drone the Zenmuse X7 uses interchangeable lenses and also has a new DJI Cinema Color System for post production.

The new DJI Zenmuse X7 camera features 6K CinemaDNG RAW with a Super 35 sensor, promised to deliver up to 14 stops of dynamic range.

DJI has worked with Technicolor to improve its color science for the Zenmuse 7. The 16mm lens features a built in 4 stages ND filter, while the other lenses have a filter thread to use existing ND filters from their existing line of lenses. Even better, it utilizes a new DL-mount system for changing among an available set of F2.8 prime lens options - 16mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm.

"With their guidance, our engineers developed an optimized curve for the X7 allowing more latitude without sacrificing image quality". There is also a new D-Gamut RGB color space that the camera records in for a wider color range.

DJI have increased the sensor size in the Zenmuse X7 camera, providing more detail and colour information for a professional, cinematic image.

Up to 23 minutes flying time when mounted onto the DJI Inspire 2. Upon launch, at least, the Zenmuse X7 will be made available on the Inspire drone, but the sources state that the camera may be available on cheaper drones at some point in the future. Customers can also purchase all four lenses together for $4,299.

The leak comes by way of DroneDJ, which published two press shots showing what is said to be the Zenmuse X7, as well as a promotional video.

Wow right? If you are a Inspire 2 owner I'm sure you are digging through your credit card balances about now to get one. With D-Log Curve and D-Gamut RGB color space and a super 35 sensor it would make an amazingly good camera for ground level shooting as well without having to use awkward heavy setups.
