Google launches payment system for speedier checkouts

Pali Bhat, VP of Product Management, Payments, explains in the official blog that the feature allows people to pay in app or online with a verified credit or debit card that has been saved to their Google account, via products like Google Play, Chrome, and YouTube. The idea here is that you've associated various payment methods with your Google account-through Android Pay or one of Google's web services-and can then use that information to complete purchases more quickly at participating e-retailers.

Pay with Google works via the company's Chrome web browser and on an expanding list of Android apps, including popular services such as Kayak, Postmates and Dice.

Google is making it easier to splurge your cash online and through your Android smartphone with the launch of Pay with Google. You do not have to type any information as Google automatically fetches your payment-related information and sends it to the merchant.

Google's efforts to knock the web into a state of HTTPS-by-default is showing signs of working, with a significant rise in HTTPS traffic on Chrome on Android, Windows, Mac, and Chrome OS. The Google Payment API can, in Google's words, be implemented "with just a few lines of code" and - best of all - Google does not charge any transaction fees. Google is touting a number of high-profile retailer partners who have signed-on for Google Payments, though majority are apparently restaurants and/or food delivery services or travel-related businesses like AirBNB and Kayak.

The new payment service is created to make buying stuff or paying for thing much quicker. The feature eases the process of payment on Android and Chrome browser. These payment providers, including Adyen, Braintree, Vantiv, and Stripe, will continue to process transactions.
