IAF commandos martyred, two Lashkar terrorists killed

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid said these militants were involved in a number of terror attacks in which security forces personnel and civilians were killed.

"Both the Air Force personnel were GARUD Commandos who were operating with the Army for operational experience and training", said a spokesman.

As per the recent reports, two army soldiers and two militants were allegedly killed in a gunfight near Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday.

In an intense operation on Wednesday morning in Hajin, Bandipur, two terrorists were killed. Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, one of them a Pakistani national, were also killed in the encounter.

They were injured in the exchange of fire with the terrorists and evacuated to 92 base hospital, where they succumbed to injuries. Two Air Force Garud personnel were also martyred in the action. They were part of the operation for training goal.

One pistol, a huge quantity of ammunition and two AK-series rifles were recovered from the encounter site.

Womenfolk amid eyes full of tears sang eulogies while mourners carried slain Nasrullah's body through the streets of Hajin before his funeral was held, local sources said.

According to the Kashmir Media Service, a youth in the Keran area of Kupwara district was also killed in a separate gun battle.

The Indian army camp was attacked by grenades thrown by the attackers. "It is a big success for the security forces", Vaid said.

The Army said in a statement that "befitting" tributes were paid to the two IAF martyrs at a wreath-laying ceremony at Srinagar's Badami Bagh cantonment, home of the 15 (Chinar) Corps. The security forces are going after militants as part of Operation Hunt Down and on the basis of a hit list of terrorists.
