Mizzou Vs. KU In A Charity Basketball Game

Kansas and Missouri's men's basketball teams are in discussions to hold an exhibition game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Sunday, Oct. 22, per multiple reports.

On Thursday, the Missouri athletics department confirmed a possible renewal of the Missouri-Kansas rivalry on October 22 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City as part of a benefit for hurricane relief efforts.

Reports surfaced yesterday that the two programs were in talks to host a charitable game in Kansas City that would provide funds for hurricane relief efforts, and a release this afternoon confirmed the report and slated a 3 p.m. start time for the Showdown for Relief. Each school will distribute about half of the 18,000 tickets with the goal to raise more than $1 million for charity.

The game will not be televised or streamed online, but fans not in attendance can listen on their respective school's radio network.

Carrington Harrison of 610 Sports radio first reported the news of the game, which would have to be cleared by the NCAA because of rules not allowing Division I basketball teams to play exhibitions against each other.

Kansas and Missouri's men's basketball programs last played each other on February 25, 2012 before the Tigers bolted for the Southeastern Conference. With that in mind, I contacted Coach (Cuonzo) Martin and discussed the possibility of us playing an exhibition game for the benefit of so many affected by the catastrophic storms.

The Missouri-Kansas rivalry dates back to 1907, with the Jayhawks leading the all-time series 172-95.

For the first time in more than five years, Mizzou and their biggest historical rival will be facing off on the basketball court.
