Nadal wins sixth title of the year

The world-ranked 19 Kyrgios displayed his best side in forcing Nadal to 2-2 in the first set, but his other side soon emerged.

After letting a couple of break points slip past, Nadal finally ripped a return victor down the line to effectively end this contest.

The third game was a similar story, with Kyrgios again making an error on a break point and allowing Nadal to hold.

The match was much closer than the result might suggest.

Kyrgios, who was going after a fourth career title, was already on a warning from umpire Mohamed Lahyani for something he said in disputing a call in the first game of the match. Nadal was clutch when needed most.

Nadal beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in his semi-final to reach his ninth final of the year. The No. 1 seed also saved each four of Kyrgios' break point opportunities.

Nadal now has three wins and two losses against Kyrgios at the ATP level.

At the Japan Open in Tokyo, David Goffin captured his second ATP title in a week with victory over Adrian Mannarino of France.

It's the sixth trophy of the season for the World No. 1, breaking a tie with Federer and Alexander "Sascha" Zverev, as well as getting him closer to locking up year-end No. 1.

French and US Open victor Nadal won nine games in a row on his way to reclaiming the trophy he won in 2005. Nadal is now hoping to win his first Shanghai title at next week's Shanghai Rolex Masters.

The announcement comes less than a week after Kyrgios pledged to donate $50 per ace he served at the China Open to help the Hurricane-devastated Puerto Rico.

The 22-year-old plans on being heavily involved in the project when he isn't travelling for tennis and the centre will house a tennis and basketball courts.
