'Several' people injured in shooting at Swedish marketplace

Several people have been injured in the southern Swedish municipality of Trelleborg after a gunman opened fire at what is described as a busy market.

The Express quoted a Swedish policespokesman as saying: "We have received several reports of a shooting in Trelleborg".

Police spokesman Fredrik Bratt explained that four people were injured in attack.

"We are blocking certain areas and will conduct a technical survey", Bratt said.

"I do not have any more information at this time. We have launched a major investigation", it added.

There is no official word from the authorities regarding the suspect, whether there is more than one shooter or if anyone has been detained.

"I was at home at the computer when I heard a loud bang", Aron Tydén - another person in the area - told the publication, claiming that he heard people running.

Trelleborg is the southernmost town in Sweden, about 33km from Malmo, and has a history of gang violence.

Local police are urging residents to stay away from the area.

Forensics officers and police dogs have arrived on the scene.
