Stephen King's Pet Sematary remake finds its directors

Yet another Stephen King adaptation is getting set to hit theaters as Paramount announced today that directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch have been tapped to helm the upcoming Pet Semetary film, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Rumours of a remake under Paramount have been rife for some time and now, according to Variety, the project has landed directors in the form of Kolsch and Widmyer, the duo behind 2014's Starry Eyes.

King's 1983 novel Pet Sematary tells the story of a Northeastern pet cemetery built on a Native American burial ground and home to a monstrous, supernatural Wendigo. Jeff Buhler and David Kajganich wrote the script, and Alexandra Loewy is executive producing for Paramount.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing the remake to the 1989 horror classic, which was directed by Mary Lambert and written by King, along with Steven Schneider.

Pet Sematary follows Doctor Louis Creed who moves his family to ME where he meets a friendly local named Jud Crandall.

When Louis' son Gage dies, he made a decision to bury the boy's body in the same ground despite the warnings from Crandall.

The film was a huge success and brought in around $57 million on a $11 million budget and even spawned a less successful 1992 sequel starring Edward Furlong and Anthony Edwards. Bill Skarsgard plays the terrifying child-eating clown Pennywise, while Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard stars as a young man looking for his friend's little brother.
